About
I am so glad you have found your way to this website!
I want to take some time to introduce myself and share some of my story with you.
On this about page, you’ll learn about my experiences in education and teaching, my goals and values as an educator, and what I hope to offer through this website and its resources.
As teacherjaden.com’s community grows and we gather more contributors, we will add their stories to the site. And, if you have any questions, just head over to the Contact page to get in touch.
I first started making classroom materials when I was 8 years old.
After we moved to Oregon, my mother started a school in our home. There were many evenings when we would eat dinner at the round, wooden, child-sized table instead of our adult sized one. I enjoyed the creativity and craftiness needed to make materials, and the concepts piqued my interest.
I began working in my mother’s school as a teenager, and I loved it.
By that time, her Montessori-based program had grown to more than 150 students, and it was a wonderful learning experience. As I grew older and more experienced, I took on more responsibility, and in my early 20s I became a Lead Teacher for the first time. Besides full academics, we had a joyful music program, sports and PE, theatre, and an Elementary after school program. It was a whirlwind of activity!
When my mother sold her school in 2008, I branched out into different areas of education.
I worked with elementary-aged children in the Portland Public School District, volunteered with Bienestar youth programs, and began working one-on-one with young children in Oregon and southern Washington with no access to early childhood education.
When my sister approached me in 2016 about helping her open a school, I was ready to teach in a Montessori classroom again.
By this time, my son was starting high school, I had finished my degree, and I was at a place in my life where I could dive headfirst into the Montessori Method. Of course, the 9 years that followed were full of surprises and changes, including the pandemic. But I was able to hone my skills as a teacher, get my certification as a Montessori Primary Guide, and do the personal work necessary to become a truly supportive and understanding adult for the young children I work with.
